Avater Wont Update after upload

I get this message when ever i try to update my profile

An Error Has Occurred!
The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.

Hi, welcome to SMF. :)

Using an FTP client, go to the root of your forums and make sure that permissions of the "attachments" folder is the same as the permissions of the other folders there such as  Sources. Normally 755 but it could be 775 or 777.

How do I use FTP? / What is FTP?
How do I chmod? / what is chmod?

Which version SMF are you using?

where would i find those number, 777

Using an FTP client, right click on the folder and it should be an option there. It's usually either Permissions" or "chmod".

Do check the permissions of some of the other folders first.

so do i put 777 or live it at 775
