SMF 2.02 integration
faddi89:
I have a smf forum(2.02) ,i want to build a related site, is it possible to fully integrate the forum in the site so that by logging in the website you can also use forums. What do you recommend for the website drupal, mambo or wordpress ?
faddi89:
I want to fully integrate so that new forum posts and topics are displayed on the website also. Thanx for replying.
Kindred:
wordpress is not a CMS.
is mambo even still active?
drupal is a gigantic mess, IMO...
Why not just use a portal mod?
stukka:
@Kindred
Ok..we get it.. you don't like other systems..
but people actually need these systems because not everything is possible with a portal mod.
great forum software.. but for me not the right one at this moment.
But i'm sure there will be a time when i only need a forum or can build a website with the praised portal...
must be pretty powerful when it can replace drupal, wordpress, mambo and others...
Kindred:
stukka, You missed my point.
I don't hate other systems... they each have their place. I'm actually running Joomla on one of my other sites and wordpress on 3 of them...
However, each has its niche in what you can and should do with it.
If the forum is going to be the main part of the site, then use the forum as the backbone.
If the blog is going to be the main part of the site, then consider WordPress...
However, there is generally no need to mix the two...
And please.. tell me what you can do with those other systems that can not currently be done with a portal mod + other mods?
I run the 40konline site using the forum + mods.
Forum, blogs, galleries, glossary, links page, affiliates page, general HTML pages, articles... Everything that I used to do in Joomla is now done through the forum+mods -- because the forum is the backbone and the main reason that the site exists.
If you want to run your site on WordPress, then fine... it can do that. Trying to tie multiple softwares together is a sure fire way to screw up your site, though... especially when its not necessary.
In this case, the user is starting fresh....
well, actually, he says that he already has a forum - which, to me, means that the forum is the backbone.
and I stand by my analysis of drupal... drupal is a giant mess. The generated site has divs within divs within divs... sometimes buried 10 deep (and I am not exaggerating). Doing any sort of layout modification or integration with drupal is a pain.
mambo seems to be, unfortunately, defunct. The website has not has any update since 2010
joomla is pretty good, and there are two bridges (sort of) for SMF... but, IMO, neither one is particularly strong.
