I've bought a lot of online stuff in SERIOUS places and i didn't even get a single issue with spam or things like that.
Not giving personal information to sites like EBay or Amazon is just plain paranoid, now, Sony in the other hand... well, it fails.

Its pretty hard to not give details nowdays online or you miss out on a lot of stuff. You just gotta try weed the idiots out and use reputable as possible sites. Sony hasnt done itself any favours with such a high profile breach and hopefully they get a fine to suit.

Really, with how much information there is available online these days, and how easily accessible it is, with tools to make it even easier, I hate to say, but it's pretty darn hard to remain anonymous, even not entering in a full name or something similar.
