I'm not sure if it's tested with SQL 2008 before, but I think it will require MySQL instead. See the requirements here.

But i already have an SQL2008 server planned. I think that it would be a wast of CPU and SPACE to also build MySql.

Sorry to hear that. SMF will need MySQL to run properly. I'm not sure of any alternative methods to this...

Hi cookiesmonster,

Currently we only support MySQL. However SMF 2.0 has database abstraction which adds support for PostgreSQL and sqlite. Hopefully in the future we'll be able to add other databases including MSSQL server :).
