Moving Forum, but don't have original files...
tamtid:
... or much knowledge for that matter :)
I asked for advice a little while ago and said about the trouble we were having with our developer who was being quite possessive over our Forum and kept putting it on his site, always had the files on his site and when I asked for everything to go on our website he said the forum database was too big- which I now know it isn't.
Anyway to cut a long story short, I have redesigned the entire website myself and ended the relationship with the developer, but I am struggling to get my head around getting the forum into / onto our website.
My hosting service is with Fasthosts and I know they do a 'one click' installer. Is that any good at all? I have a MySQL database and PHPMyAdmin set up- but I'm not quite sure what to do with it after that! I have downloaded smf 2-0-2 install too, unzipped it and uploaded it onto the server via ftp on Dreamweaver and it has transferred successfully.
I have a back up of the forum information as I cannot get access to the original files as they are being with-held by the now previous developer, I suppose on the same lines that I changed all the passwords to our hosting sites ;) Anyhow this forum has been going three and a half years and I don't want to lose the information, can I possibly just use the most recent backup available to work off and where do I put this information?
Thanks for your help- as ever,
Tammy

Why does your 'developer' have access to so much? Once he does whatever work you assigned him all passwords should be changed.
tamtid:
He doesn't anymore!
Historically he did everything and has been with 'the company' for nine or ten years now. He used to own the domain and everything at one point. So I kind of inherited him. Slowly things have evolved away from him. I bought the company three years ago and then I set up the hosting and bought the domain, but he was given the same privileges as before.

Have you read this at all:
Installing SMF
And this:
How do I move my SMF forum to a different host?
These should get you started. :)
