Mass users import - MD5 issue

Hey guys,

Sorry, I know the topic has already been treated but I have looked everywhere and I haven't found my answer yet. I am trying to import users from an "old" forum to my new SMF installation. The old forum had passwords encrypted in plain unsalted md5. I understood SMF (I am using 2.0.2) is supposed to have backwards compatibility. Although, I have looked into the LogInOut class file, and it seems to never reach the point where it checks the old password. The login form creates a "hass_passwd" and post it to "Login2", and the login always fails. I checked and my password_salt in the database is empty. I am losing hope a bit there :(
