Montage making.

So i saw on youtube where a dude was recording video on MW3 through his video camera.  He hooked it up to his tv, changed the output then it all came up on his camera so it was crystal clear. And he didn't have to manually record it.  Have any of you done it? I got  a great HD camera that cost around $1500.  And i know it would look perfect.  I just have yet to figure out how to do it.
