Clean install 2.0.2 from 1.1.16

(1/2) > >>

ajay16:
I have a website that is currently running on SMF 1.1.16 and i want to upgrade the forum to 2.0.2 due to errors with manually installed packages that the previous owner has done over the years.

I dont want to upgrade using the normal way as i want to ditch the directory that im currently using and start from scratch, is this possible? Can i just install SMF 2.0.2 and then attach the current databse to it via the repair_settings.php?

Or do i need to upgrade the whole site using the normal method so the database is upgraded, then install SMF to a new directory?

Hi ajay16,

repair_settings cannot do miracles... :P

A question to better understand: what is the directory you want to ditch?

ajay16:
Haha well its saved my bum a few times!

I want to basicly start afresh and install SMF to a new directory, i dont want to upgrade my current forum as there have been many manual edits that i am not aware of and they have caused issues when i have upgraded from 1.1.12 to 1.1.16.

Elmacik:
If you do a large upgrade to 2.0.2; you will already have clean installed 2.0.2 with your existing database. Because all your files will be replaced by the large upgrade package. Of course take backups before you start to messing around. :)

I have a similar problem.  My Forum (1.1.15) was hacked and many files changed.  I don't think my mysql database was touched.  I have tried the SMF 2 large upgrade but it is saying Settings_bak.php needs to have permissions changed, but there is no such file in my directory or in the large upgrade package.  This seems to be preventing me from starting the upgrade.

I think it would be much easier to do a clean install of SMF 2 (in the same directory? or a new one?) if I can be sure I can connect it to the existing database.

I am very inexperienced at this and need some help!
