My new forum

(1/1)

GAPO:
Hey gang. For the last few months some friends and I have been using Simple Machines for a forum we started. I am pretty new to this, and only one of us has any real experience.

Anyway, our experience with SMF has been very positive so far.

I wanted to start a thread to address a couple of issues and ask for some help.

In case anyone wants or needs to see our forum, it is www.somethingsensitive.com [nofollow]

I am using the SMF 2.0.2 software, and really haven't done anything to it but install smilies and add a YouTube embedder.

It is possibly NSFW, as we discuss a lot of political and news items with a decidedly politically incorrect bent. Those easily offended may want to stera clear. you have been warned.

Firstly, text on the forum resizes itself when viewed in mobile, which many of us do. But quoted text does not resize itself. Is there anything that can be done for this?

Second, many of us would like some sort of integrated chat. Anything available yet?

Third, we would like to attatch a wiki of some sort.

I'm sure there will be more questions, and I will encourage the other admins to come to this thread.....

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kindred:
Not sure about the quote text... I'd assume it has something to do with the CSS

chat or shoutbox? they are different...
personally, I think that both are a huge waste of resources... but there are 2-3 mods for shoutboxes and a few integrations with external chat programs like flashchat.

there are a few mods for wikis or wiki-like functionality.
SMF Knowledge base
SMF FAQ
-- both work pretty much the same
SMF WIKI
-- is in alpha stages, but it works. (see my use at los.turtleshellprod.com)

GAPO:
Thanks....Yeah, I personally do not care for chat either, but it's a big thing with the forum users....

And chat, not shout box. Last I checked, and it has been a while, there were no integrated chat mods that worked with 2.0.2. Has this changed?

And thanks for the wiki info....

GAPO:
Thanks again. Shoutbox seems to do the trick. Having trouble finding the WIKI mods, though.

Also, I noticed that my link was disabled. Sorry if it was inappropriate to post it, I just figured that might help anyone who had questions about the site config.

The first two are easy to find using the search box on the mod site ;)

The wiki isn't on the mod site. You can learn more about it at http://www.smfarcade.info (there's a section there about it), but I have no idea what the development status of it is.

There's also a way to bridge SMF and MediaWiki, but I'm not sure if that bridge works with the latest version of MW, and MW is fairly complex, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you know what you're doing.

The link was disabled due to an anti-spam mod we have installed here. Once you've made more posts, it will work properly :)
