Auto-Updating

Hey, I made a shoutbox it all works perfect except it doesn't auto update when someone types a message, how do I make it update. I don't know any JavaScript.

Well sending PMs to support staff who state specifically not to PM them for support and bumping a topic in under 3 hours is not going to garner you many friends or assistance, especially when you give so little information about what and how you did what you did on your site. All support staff here are VOLUNTEERS and give freely of their own time to help. Pushing them with PMS and Bumps just does no good at all. Further bumps will be ignored.

SMF does not have any built-in shoutbox so I'm guessing you used a mod of some kind. Go back to the mod doanload page and click on the comments and support for the mod, the mod creator is the best person to help you fix the problem.

No, my friend made a chatbox, it is working 100% but you need to refresh the page to see shouts. He doesn't know javascript.

As Spock would say, this is not Logical. How can he make a chatbox (presumably written in Javascript) if he does not know Javascript?

You give so little information we cannot even guess what the problem may be. This site is for the support of SMF code and its specifically written Modifications. If you are placing handwritten code into an SMF page, we can't possibly guess what the code is or how it's implemented and we don't support code not written specifically for SMF. Please ask your friend to read a book on Javascript or whatever code he used to write the chatbox or visit the site he got the code from and ask for assistance.

There are plenty of mods available in the Customisation - Modifications area of this site to add a Chat/Shout box to your SMF forum which only require installation and adjustment to settings. Why not try one of them?
