Paid Subscription Function not finding member/s

I was jusgt trying to add someone to a paid subscription group and got a message that said it could not find the member. That's odd since I didn't type in the name, but only the 1st three letters and the name popped up as an option. The member is also in the member list and when I added her to the membergroup that goes with the subscription, it took her. But adding her that way doesn't give her the subscription which has an expiration date.

Any thoughts to what's going on?
It's not a big deal for this particular group because it's free. But I have two paid subscription groups and the other day the system started to do the same thing when I added someone--but it worked when I retried. Today retrying has only yielded the same failure.

PS: This person origianlly had a subscription with this group and I don't know if I accidentally deleted her from the group or if she was spontaneously removed.
