OSX 10.7.4, mysql, and SMF

(1/1)

u3b3rg33k:
So I'm very new here, and I'm having a problem I can't seem to figure out.

I installed MySQL via the osx dmg installer, as well as the mysqlworkbench management app.  everything appears to be working, and the test button reports good things.

I have gotten to step Step 3: Database Settings of the setup, and I can get no further.
I get this message:

Critical Error! Cannot connect to the database server with the supplied data.  If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host. No such file or directory

I'm trying to connect to localhost as root, no password (this login works when I test it in the 1st party mysql community tools), but no dice.

under the database dropdown, I get this message: Multiple supported database types were detected - which do you wish to use. Please note that running pre-SMF 2.0 RC3 along with newer SMF versions in the same PostgreSQL database is not supported. You need to upgrade your older installations in that case.
which I'm assuming means it can see that there is something running.

I also see this at the top: These are the settings to use for your database server. If you don't know the values, you should ask your host what they are.

Problem is, I am the host.  I'm lost - I've tried poking around on here, and found something that sounded like it might work (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=470009.0), stopped mysql, made the change, started it back up, and still no change.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to SMF.

Are you creating a database user and setting the privileges of that user?  Take a look at the documentation linked in my signature and make sure you are doing all the steps.
