SMF Support > Install and Upgrade Help

shutiri:
Hi.
I had an XMB forum, and I wanted to install Coppermine Picture Gallery. I read all the info about it and I wanted to integrate it with my forum. I decided to install (and convert) my forum to phpBB. I installed and converted everything (quite difficult) and tried to integrate both aplications, but it doesn't works. They told me to try with smf, the forum that they actually have.
I have already installed phpBB on my site, choose and translated the images (to spanish)... I don't want to redo this again.
So my questions:
1. What are the differences between phpBB and smf ?
2. Can I use the theme I have now on my phpBB ?
3. Is it easy to convert ?
thank you.
shutiri.
Oldiesmann:
SMF is much faster than phpBB and has a lot more features, and in my opinion is a much more user-friendly system. It would be a lot of work to list every difference.
Well, you can modify the SMF default (or classic) theme to make it look as close to the one on your phpBB as possible...
Yes, it is easy to convert. The convertor will not convert permissions or moderators, but it does convert all the member info and posts and board structure (note - SMF doesn't handle usernames with certain characters, such as spaces, apostrophes or commas, so you'll have to deal with those if you have any with those characters in them).
As far as the SMF-Coppermine integration goes, there is currently a bridge to integrate the two, but it is only available for charter members at the moment. Talk to Jack for more information.

Thank you.
should I send a PM to Jack ? How do I contact him ? I'm doing all this tests just to (finally) have a CPG/board integration, and honestly, I'm getting a little frustrated...
shutiri.

Actually as I recall the bridge is available on the coppermine downloads section.
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89658&package_id=98542
Oldiesmann:
It's available in the CVS Repository. From the sourceforge downlaods page, click on "CVS Repository", then click on "dev" and click on "bridge". Click on "smf.inc.php" and then click on "download" next to the first thing listed. You will have to add define('UDB_INTEGRATION', 'smf'); to the beginning of init.inc.php (in the coppermine inc directory) as well (follow the examples of the ones already there). Currently there are a couple bugs with it though (one minor spelling bug and an "unknown column" mysql error), so you might want to wait a couple of days until Jack has a chance to fix it.
