unable to access the "smf" database
unreal:
The installer was unable to access the "smf" database. With some hosts, you have to create the database in your administration panel before SMF can use it. Some also add prefixes - like your username - to your database names.
I've tried creating a database called smf in phpMyAdmin 2.5.7 but i still get the same alert message. How do I get past the inital install.php window? Thanks!
[Unknown]:
Are you sure the database is named smf and the user you are using has access to it?

Killer Possum:
What is the alert message? Is it a database alert or a permissions one?
unreal:
it's the smf install protocol alerting me that it cant find the database and saying that i may need to create it in mysql.

Are you sure that you server isn't adding on the prefixes - I had this problem, I got the same message as you and thought I wasn't creating the database, when all along I was - just it had a prefix after it and I wasn't inserting the correct name in the text field
