I cant download SMF and im a bit confused

first off,i cant understand the wiki at all ,Im not that great at computer program talk.

second,everytime i try downloading it this message pops up:
To open this file windows needs to know what you want to use to open it. windows can go online and look it up automatically or you can manuallly select it from a list of programs that are installed on your computer

First off, welcome to SMF! :)

You should Save that file rather than try to open it. Next step would be to FTP or even better use File Manager to upload that file to where you want to install SMF. Extract it (using File Manager). View the install.php file in a browser window and follow the steps. Have you created a database and tied a user to it?

ok i saved the file,easy.I think i saved it to a good file. But  how to i go to file manager or 'Ftp'? sorry this is most likley my first time messing around with files and stuff.

File Manager would be hopefully through your hosting control panel (cPanel). This is the more effective method, although FTP does work...FTP...
How do I use FTP? / What is FTP?

Will it be labled 'Ftp" beacuse i dont see anything like that on my control panel.
