Unread posts vs Unread topics

When the "show unread posts" link is used, it shows unread topics.

Can it be made to go to the last unread post within that topic?
(instead of the first post)

How about based on actually read, as opposed to "since last visit"?

If you go all to the right and select this icon: it will jump to the last post in that topic :)

Why would you want to go to the end of a topic, knowing that you'd skipped things that had been posted? That's why the 'new' link takes you to the first unread post in the topic.

As for the 'last visit', that's purely for performance. If you then go to 'all unread topics', it is as the name suggests, it is all unread topics, but the performance change is possibly significant.

If a member has read a topic, why would you want to go to the beginning. They want to go to new posts since they read the topic last.

If it's a performance issue, then the link is mis-labelled.
It should say "show unread topics" not "unread posts" since last visit.
(which it does say when the list is generated)

Any 'mods' been written to do this?

That's why the 'new' next to a topic takes you to the first post you have not yet seen. And has done so for several years.

That's a matter of semantics, because it's unread posts grouped by topic since the last visit.
