Chas Large:
I'm sorry B but I just can't seem to get my head round this. In trying to suggest to the user where to go and what to do I felt it was worded OK. I cannot think of another way of putting it. I guess my knowledge and understanding of my own language is not as good as I thought it was so I'd better bow out now. If I can't get a couple of simple paragraphs right I doubt I can do anything else in such a short timescale. It would be quicker for you to write it.
Sorry.
Chas
B:
I'm sorry to have discouraged you. :(
The style we've chosen for the OM takes some getting used to. Some of it even goes against what we've been taught all our lives (or at least what I was taught). The Doc Helpers group is not merely a way for the Doc Team to churn out new docs. We want to help you guys grow and develop. In reality Doc Helpers are not on a schedule. We just wanted to get you guys involved with the 2.0 docs to help us out when you could. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the deadline we set for the Doc Team. I do hope you'll stick around; I think you have a lot of potential.

If you're up for it, maybe give this idea a shot. Forget about the user. :) Seriously... Pretend there are no users, so you have no one to direct. Instead, just document the software. Rather than telling someone where to go and what to do, explain how the feature/option can be used. Make the software the focal point of the documentation, not the user ('cause there are none, remember? :D).
I don't know if that helps, but I really would like to see you give it another go if don't mind. :)
B
Chas Large:
OK B, I'll give it another go. I think I understand now that you want this to be completely impersonal. I suppose as I've always been used to writing Training Manuals and Guides, I've always addressed the material to the audience it was intended for. Here goes.
Rewrite #5
--- Quote from: Chas Large ---If a topic has been posted in a board that does not relate to that board, it can be moved to a more appropriate location. The Move Topic button in the topic is used to achieve this. Other boards are offered in a drop down list. A redirection topic post can be posted if required via the Post a redirection topic checkbox.
A redirection topic includes the original name of the topic along with a link to the location it was moved to and a link to the newly moved topic. If the subject of the topic requires changing, the Change the topic's subject can be selected and the new subject can be entered. By default, redirection topics are locked.
In order to move multiple topics at the same time, checkboxes are required. In Profile > Modify Profile > Look and Layout, the Show quick-moderation as option has a drop-down box. Within that box the checkboxes option can be selected. In the board where the topics are to be moved, the checkbox to the far right of each topic in the list will require selecting followed by selections in the two dropdown boxes at the bottom of the page. The Move Selected To in the left-hand box and the destination for the moved topics in the right-hand dropdown box. Selecting the Go button completes the process.

Yeah. Like I said, it goes against what most of us are used to. :)

Beautiful! :D Let's use "dropdown lists" instead of "dropdown boxes," though.
