So I downloaded the files and untar, ungz them for Linux. I am running red hat 8. The Apache server is 2.0.40, php is version 4.2.2., and mysql ver. 3.23.58. Created myself as a user in mysqld, and I can log in with my username and password.

I uncompressed the files into the /var/www/smf directory, and set the file/directory permissions as requested. Verified the settings in the php.ini, some were there and already set to requrements, some were not to find.

When I am running the install.php I get the following almost empty page:

Blue line on the top of the page: "SMF Installer" and nothing else, but on the bottom of the page says Done.

What am I doing wrong?

David:
Can you send us a link to a phpinfo page please?  I vaguely remember there may be some issues with PHP 4.2.2 but am not positive off the top of my head.

Can you pm me a link to the installer so I can see the actual output?

Do you have display_errors on in php.ini?

oxyfx:
Thanks for your fast reply.

the link is here: http://www.ngctech.com/smf/install.php [nofollow]

I have to mention the following, which I've been thinking of last night: I had the Stock redhat 8 installed, and added the mysql installation from it's installation cd. Than upgraded it to the latest version over the rhn auto-update tool. I looked and looked, and I don't believe there is a mod_mysql installed anywhere for the apache. Could that cause this behaviour?

Thanks again,

Oxy

Reading through my original post I noticed, that I did not tell you, that the blank page occurs after I click on the Proceed button.

Thx again.
