Disabling the Forum part of SMF
Fog:
You can hide the forum so you don't have to disable it.
Modify your NAV BAR so your members can't find it.

There are very legitimate cases for using SMF to bridge to things but they're specialised, and as stated, if you shut the forum down, what's left? In SD's case, the helpdesk is left (and that has intentions for things like bridging to other systems entirely, hence it makes some kind of sense, plus it's themable)

He probably meant it as bizarre because it's a feature request for SMF by default. In that case, there really wouldn't be a need.
Arantor:
It is a pretty bizarre request, to be fair - default feature request or not - if you take the forum out of a forum what are you left with?

They could use Simple Portal for their front page modify the nav bar so it doesn't say forum on one of the buttons. Then create pages that you can access with a new url instead of the forum url.

Well, just for the hell of it, I was considering writing a custom website on an SMF/PortaMx combination backend. You still get a powerful backend that will allow all sorts of staff stuff and custom page creation. It's mainly the sort of thing a nutter (like me) would do just for fun and to show off what you can do on an SMF back end. I wouldn't recommend it for anything else.
