I disagree on several counts, and recommend almost anything over pidgin for IRC.

Aside from that, the IRC channel can be funny. And annoying. And annoyingly funny.

Or, if you hit a slow period, mind-numbingly silent.

Agreed. IM is not well-suited for IRC. The two things are different in design. My personal favorite client right now is X-Chat, but even ChatZilla is better than Pidgin.

We're been working on some configuration stuff lately.

Those errors are from the memcached caching engine we're now using. If you keep seeing those types of errors, please let us know.

@ The Pidgin for IRC discussion: Back when Pidgin was named gAIM I tried to use "/msg nickserv [password] [email]" - rather than messaging, it sent the message in raw to the entire chatroom I was in.  My nick ended up getting dropped + I was ghosted :[

Awww :( Really, will it not be acted nicely upon if I show up on this channel with a support request? Oh and guys, I searched the topic, but didn't find any hits on this, weird: PJIRC is the past, Mibbit is the future! A really nice, stable IRC-client, web-accessable thanks to great JavaScript. You can even request code for placing a mibbit application right on your website.

Hi Sadr.

Our main reason for not offering support is that the aren't often that many people to help out in chat and also because most things people ask have either already been said here (and so could be found by searching!).

Having said that I've written an SMF Support Bot. Its currently being tested in #smhelp but it will be moved to #simplemachines soon :)

As for mibbit I can't see us making that our offical online client because it doesn't seem to be self hosted and also makes it impossible to ban people if they're all logged on from the same IP

Then don't use mIRC. It isn't the only IRC client out there.

(Guessing you run Windows since you said that)

In addition, Pidgin, Trillian, and even Opera can connect to IRC. The first page of this topic also has a link to a Java-based applet that will connect you.
