Trimming down the SMF footer/copyright links

(1/3) > >>

Arantor:
I'm curious, and going to tempt fate at this point.

There's a site I've worked on lately where the entire footer copyright is simply:

--- Quote ---Built on top of SMF 2.x and DzinerStudio's newBalance theme
--- End quote ---

SMF 2.x is a link to here, DzinerStudio is a link back there. (Oh, and DS have indicated that they're satisfied by this, so it's really just down to SMF now)

My question: how far is too far? The rules seem to indicate that you have to leave SMF copyright in the footer but how much is 'leaving it in'? There is a link back from the template to here, indicating what it is built on.

I see no reason why I should put three separate links in the footer, two of which come here, on every single page, which will actually have some bearing on SEO just for good measure (benefitting SMF, not so much for me!), so I'm going to tempt fate and say is this adequate?

I don't really mind either way, I think I've done my fair share of contributing back to SMF in the past, but I thought it would be good to get some opinions from the crowd as to what they think about it.

I might even get round to putting it in the Showcase some day but as it stands it's sort of questionable as to whether it meets the 'you must have SMF copyright in the footer' rule... ;)

FWIW, I don't care about the usual 'you won't get any support here' deal for myself. Let's be honest... hands up who thinks I need SMF support? ;)

* Arantor is well aware that he is being a touch inflammatory at this point, finds it tends to get people to show their true colours a bit better.

Suki:
After the license change I see keeping copyright stuff as a way to get support here and nothing more really.

As you already said, that is not an issue for you so I will say go for it :)

Edit, as for the rules in showcase, I think as long as there is a link to this site then is OK, the links to the license and the credits one are pretty much useless.

mashby:
Do what you feel makes sense, apologize later if you even have to. I doubt you will have to. I know you don't need support. Having even one link is good enough for me. But I'm not in any position of authority, nor do I care to be. :)

Fustrate:
I found SMF through a copyright link, so I know they can be beneficial towards SMF on occasion. I like the idea of having it there, but I'm not heartbroken when it's not present.

K@:
As long as it appears and it's fairly obvious, I'd be OK with it.
