Anyone have any experience using buddypress?
http://buddypress.org/

How would this be different then a forum?

Arantor:
It's essentially a limited forum plugin to WordPress. If you're already using WordPress it's a viable option if you don't want anything too complicated out of it.

Thanks for the reply.
Have you tried it Arantor?

ChalkCat:
I tried adding Buddypress to my blog in the early days, but found it seemed to want to take over rather than just acting as an add-on.  So I created a fresh Wordpress install on a different domain and installed Buddypress, intending for it to take over.  However, I quickly found it complicated and cumbersome, yet with functionality too limited to be worth my while.  That's when I found SMF and started all over again :)

Based on my brief encounter with it, I would suggest that if you really want a basic Facebook-style community enough to fight through the hassle to figure out how the thing works, then go for it.  I quickly decided I didn't want to waste my time....

Seems as if there own support forum uses BBPress.

Guess I'm just not sure how BuddyPress ties in with wordpress as a simple forum.

This is what I'm afraid of about using buddy press.

What I want to do is start a site were I post once a day about a appliance repair service call I did, guess it would be a appliance repair blog.
Being a new site I know that I will have to be the one to add content. At times I will use it to link back to my SMF appliance forum.

So I was thinking I would use wordpress for this blog. But I have tried blogging before and know that it's hard for me to do on a regular bases, so I would want the site to be inviting for visitors to register and add content.

It seems easier for me to get people to register at a forum type site then a blog type site.

I have used IBP and SMF to create forums. It seems a lot easier to get members with them type of forum sites then any blog type site I have created in the past using wordpress.

So I thought maybe buddy press would do the trick.
