Urgent Help with My Forum Please!!!!
« on: May 16, 2012, 11:06:49 AM »
There is an issue with posting in my newly created forum forum.  I copied the privacy policy for example, created a post in the board i created for it and pasted it in the post but after after i click on post, 90% of the texts disappear. It happened the same with the forum rules. i tried post in another board, it still gives the same problem. All text contents of the post  show when previewed but after you click on post, the all disappear leaving only a line or a word. Please somebody should help. My forum is hxxp://www.elonigeria.com.
i checked the post settings and it says "maximum allowed characters per post is 20,000 characters by default and i have not changed that. Any help will be appreciated as i am new to SMF forum software. Thanks.

Try copying and pasting it into Notepad first to remove the formating.

Edit: Ok ignore that as didn't realise this was from Word

What I said will remove some of the formatting but not the SmartQuotes.

I'll bet you created content in Word (or other Microsoft word processor) and cut and pasted it into SMF. Right? This brought in "Smart Quotes" that are invalid characters and break the text display. See http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=476538.msg3333723#msg3333723 and try that code patch.

P.S. Please don't SHOUT in the subject!

Ok is this sorted now ?

Please don't post with a title like "URGENT HELP WITH MY FORUM PLEASE!!!!"

Posting in CAPITALS is rude and can be interpreted as shouting, plus more importantly this was not an URGENT problem  ;)

You can try editing one PHP file per the instructions in the post I referenced before. It was written and tested on SMF 2.0.2. It should fix Smart Quotes characters on the fly (on output). Be sure to back up the file first, so you can restore it if something goes wrong.

Thanks for your help. I will try to edit the code and see how it works. Though I don't know anything about PHP coding.

Well, that could be disputed. To have large chunks of post text mysteriously disappearing could reasonably be considered an urgent problem. It's certainly more urgent that "how do I change a certain color"? The shouting was unnecessary.
