Php Ide confused me too when I tried to use it. It was like Arantor said and after a few tries I gave up on it. Recently I have switched to Notepad++ and I am very happy with it.

Plugins > Plugin Manager > Show Plugin Manager > find and install 'SherloXplorer'
there is also 'NppFTP' for ftp in you want this functionality

I'm using N++ and FileZilla combo, but sometimes switch back to PS+Dreamweaver

Suki:
Yeah, I already tried that (I have checked if not all, most of the plugins available for Notepad++), it is not that good, I prefer to stick with session files.

I use ActiveState's Komodo Edit. It works awesome for me, and is free. There's also Komodo IDE but meh.

Jokerâ„¢:
IDE's mentioned as per ratings

1. PHPStrom (JetBrains)
2. Aptana
3. Komodo

But, still my all time favorite is notepad++.
