marking topics as hot topic
ibtkm:
Hi all. I have a smf forum and have a problem there. in each section of the forum we have some content that are useful and can cause good discussion. some of them are important and some of them not. Those which are not important after passing 2 or 3 days, moves to next page and we loose those topics.
I wanna add sth like "hot topic" . an admin mark a topic as hot topic and then there will be a section near the "replies" on the top and right of the smf main page. when user click on that link, a pages which contains hot topic appears.
Is there anyway to do that? How can I do that? I don't have any idea about that
MrPhil:
If you're trying to force certain topics to stay on the first page, you could "pin" those topics. Unpin the topic when it ceases to be important.
A "hot topic" is normally one with many replies (high activity).
Suki:
On 2.0 a scheduled task can be made to fetch the topics from the last day/week and check how many replies they have, if they have more than X where X is a number you define in some admin panel, then that topic is marked as sticky.
But it seems you only need the standard sticky topic feature.
ibtkm:
No i don't mean a topic with more than x replies should be hot. I mean sometimes a topic is good and can be useful but no one replies about it but it's still good and we should save it in a place which other people can see it. because after passing 2 or 3 days it moves to second page of the section and so we loose it.
I wanna add a button to the topic which is visible to the admin of the section. by clicking it it changes to hot topic. the meaning of hot topic in my mind is a topic which is shown in a section called for example "good topics" and this "good topics" link is aside "replies" on the top of the main page. by clicking on "good topics" link a page appears which contains those hot topics or good topics. I want sth like this
tnx
MrPhil:
Have you tried simply pinning these topics? In admin, at the bottom of the topic display page is a SET TOPIC STICKY button. That will keep them at the top of the first page and highlight them as important. If you want something more elaborate than that, you should probably be asking in the Mod Request board for someone to write a mod.
