template HTML questions

I'm fairly good with old school basic HTML coding. My problem seems to be with trying to edit the new template system. The coding looks unfamilar to me in some places, and anything I try and do seems to mess up the coding. Any suggestions on a code I can use prior to an HTML section, like a header or footer the goes with the rest of my site, or for adding my logo into a different section of the template. Just need to know if there is some code I should start off and end up with to keep my coding from messing up the hard coded index stuff. Thanks for any help once again, Lou

Try the template_above() and template_below() functions in index.template.php - those determine what goes above and below the boardindex.

or you can just use your old template file (YaBBSE template), and use the converter (available in upgrade.php)
