Old docs that are no use any longer
« on: August 23, 2012, 12:12:52 PM »
http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=1342.0
for example.  It refers to an old demo site which no longer exists.

Possible solutions are
1) create a new FAQ on the wiki, and share with Site team the correct link for this old link, as we did with the old doclinks folder.
2) Just get rid of this post altogether

option 2 is easiest, isn't it? we don't have a demo site any longer, do we?

I am now able to get rid of old posts on the obsolete docs site.
That will tide us over until we get to the next phase of the doc transition process.

One day, that docs site will be replaced with nothing bug a bunch of redirects to the new Online Manual (the one on the wiki), and then nobody will see anything from that old docs site any longer.

Not really.
There is a "closedown" process in progress.
1) First, the old online manual site was THE docs site, and the new online site was just a beta
2) Once the new online manual was ready, we gave Sleepy a bunch of information connecting old docs with new ones.
3) Currently, whenever the SMF program takes a user to the old docs site (the search in the admin center), they see the old article, with a link telling them they'd be better off with the new one
4) In the future, going to those OLD site URLs will cause an instant redirect to the specified document on the NEW online manual.

At the moment, that's what the obsolete doc site is for.
