Customizing SMF > Mod Requests

five stars with a bite

(1/1)

tranquiltree:
What I'm really looking for is a way for forums to self-regulate.

Amazon does this with thier 5-star ratings. Customers can rate items and potential customers can view the star rating.

What I'm asking for here is a way for forum members to cast a star-rating *and* (here's the bite part) if the rating drops below a configurable threashold, then the post is automatically deleted. I'm looking for a way to let the community moderate the content of my forum rather than centralizing the judgment of the value of a post into one (or a few) moderators.

Hello tranquiltree and welcome to sm.org! :)

That request is similar to this one, but a bit more "aggressive" (in the sense that you are asking for post deletion, while the other request was for post unapproval).
Entirely remove the post is a bit tricky...that is really open to any kind of abuse...

Either way, right now ask for a mod is probably the best and fastest option. If you want I can move the topic to mod requests. ;)

tranquiltree:
and there's a bit more to this that I thought I'd add:

1. Admin configures the delete threshold
2. Admin configures the minimum number of votes. For example if only 10 people vote and 9 of them are thumbs down, then that might trigger a delete. But if there are thousands of people on the forum, that might not be an adequate representation of the forum's opinion. So, either a minimum number of votes is needed.
3. I've also thought about having an admin-configurable grace period during which any delete would be delayed.
4. Would be good too if members could configure their preferences to view only posts that meet a certain threshold (I'm working with a peculiar bunch : )

Anyway ... those are some additional specs. Thanks!

tranquiltree:
thanks for the tip on the other request ... can't see that I can move this post, though.

Thanks!
