500 "internal server error" smf 1.17

The forum has been processing registrations for a while before internal server error ocurred.
We have downloaded the smf tool "repair_settings.php" and uploaded script to the root directory
of forum then accessed the script with the browser and acessed the settings page and now have the forum in maintenance mode. After checking the settings and performing maintenance on the forum still cannot acess the problem . forum error log showed 4 errors which are repaired but dont appear to be the cause.

You sure it isn't working? I just accessed your forum without any issues.

In reply to earlier post there is no php_flag in .htaccess file and added a php.ini with those values
and no change to problem have uninstalled last two plugins, restored datatabase,forum will not     acess index.php page of forum in maitenance mode although most other things search, register, members seem to be accessable have reloaded index.php and unable to locate error. host is still using php5.2 and no changes that i am aware of. please advise

smf forum  being used is 1.1.16
