[Initial] Download Packages

(1/1)

Trekkie101:
The download packages section is located in the packages section in the "Main" category in the administration center. It provides an interface for uploading, downloading and applying packages to modify the code of an SMF forum. The modification and theme system heavily depends on the download packages feature.

The page is split into two initial sections; downloading and uploading. A package can be downloaded from either a package server that contains more than one package and a listing of available modifications, or from a one time online location. The Simple Machines community modifications site will be listed by default as the only package server.

Package servers can be navigated by selecting the browse button, which will display a listing of modifications. Modifications that can be installed will be displayed with a download button alongside. Additional package servers can be added on the initial page in the "Add Server" section, first by creating a name for the package server, followed by adding a compatible package server URL and selecting "Save". Package Servers will be immediately available after addition.

Packages can be downloaded from external sources by either entering a valid and compatible URL, or by using the upload functionality in the bottom panel. All packages submit to an SMF installation will progress through various installation states to change the code to add or remove the intended functionality.

The installation procedure may require appropriate FTP information to be supplied to enable the package manager to carry out operations on the files. The administrator will be displayed a test report if the files are able to be modified, detailed information on each file will be available with either a failure status or a success status. Upon all stages reporting a successful status an installation button will be selectable, after applying any modifications, a report will either report a success or fail on the actual file modification.
