On a fresh installation of SMF When I add a new member through the admin panel it does not add him to the default registered members group. Only Mod or Admin groups are present.

Only when I do a external registration then the registered member group shows up and I can add a member to that group through the admin panel

By default new members (i.e. without any other primary group) are part of the "regular member" group, but that is not a group that you can "assign".

Could you please describe better how you have configured your groups and the steps to reproduce the issue?

Strange I retraced the same steps on a localhost installation and it did not give me any problems








I posted screens of the steps. Right after the 6th step when I login with my testbot account I encountered a msg saying something like : You are not allowed to view these boards.

When I repeated this on localhost I did not get the issue.
All the groups are default groups.

I'm not sure why I got this error but another I noticed which retracing this is when I add a user through admin panel it gives me only Admin and global mod options.
Even in membership only those groups r available not registered users

As you said if I dont add them to either group they will turn out as normal registered users which did not happen to me in the first time but worked out the second time.

But If I do an external registration and then delete the account and then try an internal registration I get the option of registered members in the additional memberships options

I feel you have a mod installed that assign newly registered users to a particular group, am I wrong?

Nope.

The above was done on a setup with no mods. Is there any such mod anyway ? I just want new registered members to be in the registered members category whether through internal registration or external.
