He invented Mario (the reason Mario has a hat is because Shiggy can't draw hair well (or couldn't), he was later specified as a plumber). And of course Donkey Kong (as that was Mario's first game).
He invented Zelda.
He also invented Star Fox I believe.
He was the one who decided to convert the book Pokemon into a game... and basically he's hada role in ever major Nintendo game (1st, 2nd and 3rd party) thats come out in the past 20 years or something.
Basically most Nintendo in-house games have him listed somewhere as a producer or whatever, and he's responsible for helping many other games be ... well better games... (Metroid Prime he had a big hand in).

It still seems cheated. Notice, for example, how the clock freezes for more than a few seconds.

As far as the 'flying' debate thing is, I've done something similar to that myself. He just had a lot of speed built up, and hit the jump button at the right time, to keep himself propelled the way it looks.

Kinda scary how the game inventor himself did that. Though, seeing as to a few crappy games I've made, I can see how it's possible :P
