How to delete default English language?

Hi

I don't remember if during installation there is choice for default language (I think not), but my default language now is English with ISO-8859-1 encoding. Since my forum is multilingual, I need English with UTF-8. There is no problem to install that one, but there is no option to delete the default one in order not to confuse users with two English language options. All others languages can be deleted through admin panel except the default one. Is manual deletion of files the only way to remove the default language from selection?

If the installer detects another language presence in the languages directory, then it continues in that language and makes it the default one. If you haven't used any other language files, then it's probably why you don't remember any language choice; but as you pointed out, you can always install a new language and make it the default one.

Default English language files are highly discouraged to be deleted. Because your forum uses those default English files wherever necessary. (i.e. while there are issues with the default language you are using.) Nevertheless FYI, deleting files corresponding in the languages directory will uninstall that language. But beware, don't delete the files you are using.

I'm aware of the things you said, but how would I go about to have Eng language in UTF-8 encoding as default language files?

How about deleting default language files, .english.php and renaming .english-utf8.php to .english.php. Would that enable me right encoding and a fallback option?

Elmacik, please disregard my last post, I 've just figured it out. Everything is settled now.

The problem was that when I tried to set default language to Eng-utf8, the change was not saved (?) and it was returning to ISO-8859-1...that's why I thought I need to remove that encoding as it was not overriden. However, after few new tries it did save it and everything is perfect.
