Emails delayed by 24 hrs ... SOLVED

My apologies for troubling you guys again ....
Our forum is a small forum with 50 members. The problem we facing is that Email notifications ( new member joining, moderation que, birthday wishes etc etc ) are received but they are at least 24 hrs late .... We using PHP mail ( default theme ) at present.
Any help, suggestions please.

Do you have the mail queue in SMF enabled? If not talk to your host. SMF uses the PHP mail function. The server might be overloaded with mail from other sites and it sending X out per hour.

Thanks for the quick response rsw686 ....
Our server is new and there are only two sites hosted on the server.
There is no delay whatsoever in sending other personal mails.
Its just that when a mail is sent thru the board it gets delayed.
We do not have mail que in smf enabled.

I would try the SMTP option in the Maintenance -> Mail -> Mail Settings tab in SMF. This will make SMF connect directly to the mail server and bypass PHP handling the mail. Depending on how your mail server is configured you might just be able to put in localhost and leave the username and password blank.
