Dynamically Order Thread Replies by Popularity

I don't konw if SMF can handle this already.

The default ordering of replies to a thread is chronological, I belive. I think it would sometimes be useful to be able to order the replices by popularity, instead. For instance, this would allow you to get all of the most popular replies, as determined by people voting, at the top of the thread - very useful if the trhead is a long one. It could save you having to wade through a lot of low value replies.

This feature would mean that another feature was necessary: being able tovote on usefulness or value of a reply.

EDIT:
By dynamically, I mean that the position of a particular reply in a thread may have to change according to the voting that goes on. It may need to be repeatedly shifted up or down relative to other replies.

Can SMF do this? I will be very impressed if it can!

It can't out of the box but it can of course be modified to do it. Though the modifications you're talking about are significant in terms of performance because they alter how SMF does basic functions like handling the order of posts in a thread - and it will have to get slower to do that.
