Paranoid to change Default theme - please help.

K@:
That's entirely up to you. :)

I have ******loads of mods, on my forum, which is one reason why I won't go to v2.

I know squat about PHP, really. But, I got the mods working and I have quite a lot of themes, too.

As long as you remember to backup EVERYTHING (Database, too), before you go and edit stuff, you have that backup to fall back on.

When I edit files, I tend to keep a copy, renamed, so that I can quickly get things back, if I balls-up.

So, if I'm editing index.template.php, I put another cloned copy of that file on the server, named index.template0.php.

So, if I bollox it up, I quickly delete the file and rename index.template0.php back to index.template.php and nobody'll be any the wiser.
