How do I change the URL's

Please how do i change the URLs of my forum and board. For example the link below. I want to change the URL from looking like this
hxxp:www.example.com/index.php?board=2.0 [nonactive]

hxxp:www.example.com/index.php?board=nameofboard [nonactive]

That is instead of showing board=1.0 or board=2.0, i want the 1.0 or 2.0 to be the name of the board

would for something like Simple SEF or Pretty URLs be close enough or you want exactly to have the "?b=nameoftheboard" thing?
