Ten Things Most Americans Don’t Know About America.

<< < (19/33) > >>

K@:
Some English food IS ******e. No question.

But, we also have some really good stuff. Like most other countries, I'd guess?

Because of my wife's disabilities and my own, too, we mostly eat microwave crap and take-aways, now. :(

Our problem is that the vast majority of our stuff, now, seems to be imported. :(

butchs:
Maybe the French Canadian President's opinion just may sway you pallet away from English food when he said.

--- Quote ---The only thing they (the English) have ever done for European agriculture is mad cow disease

and so on...

Arantor:
Apart from the fact you're referring to the French president, not the French Canadian one, and that particular (ex-)president's feelings about the English are well known to be bordering on racist.

(Oh, and what you mean is the palate, not a pallet, which is a wooden structure used by fork-lift trucks)

I am sorry to hear your visit did not go the way you wanted...  There you go, a prime example of English arrogance...  Hate is another form of arrogance...  Not to mention a total lack of a sense of humor!

All Americans can see is that you Europeans are full of hate!  You hate each other and everyone else who could be a perceived, real or an imaginary threat...

I visited Germany.  My guide saw some Russians and told me how much he hated them.  Another day he pointed over there and said "the French border is that way, We hate the French!"

I worked with English and they show nothing but arrogance and disrespect to Americans...  Now I see the French hate the English..  We all know the French hate us too...  There was a time when Americans could wear the Maple Leaf and get treated nicely.  But as of late I hear that is no longer the case...  The circle of hate never ends over there...

But you do not realize that as a Country we do not hate you.  We offer charity for all those who hate us.  We spread our kindness to sway your opinions...  What do we get in return?  I will give you three letters to guess...

Yall should try visiting the American Bible Belt some time....  There you could learn...

English arrogance? Try reading the posts again: I had a blast, thoroughly enjoyed myself over in the US and came away with a much better feeling about the American people. In other words, I put some of my arrogance aside and saw what was really going on - and yet, when I come to this forum, I see all the same narrow-minded BS that caused me to feel negative towards the US in the first place.

In other words, you by YOUR arrogance are actually reinforcing the view the rest of the world has about you, you know, just like the article mentioned on the first post ;)

Your nation has been at war multiple times with the same people over literally hundreds of years. Britain, France, Spain, we've all been at war more times with each other than we care to remember.

Few countries in Europe like France, because of the same sneering looking down attitude - politically - that you're referring to.

And nothing to do with you showing arrogance in reply, no doubt ;) Let's just say that you're not noted for your humility, are you?

As a country you might not hate us. As a country we don't hate you either. We dislike the arrogance shown by the American nation to us, the repeated lop-sided diplomatic agreements and so on.

I think the best example was diplomatic gifts between Obama and our previous prime minister. Our prime minister got Obama a pen or something, and it was made from the wood of one of the ships that brought Obama's forefathers to the US. A reminder of heritage, as it were, and though I forget exactly what it was about, it was considered by all concerned to be a thoughtful gift.

And what did Obama get our PM? A set of DVDs, that didn't even work because they were US region, not EU region. Yeah... that's thoughtful.

The Bible Belt, you say? Isn't that the home of the Westboro lot, who are even now preparing to protest at the memorial service of the shootings in Denver? Please explain to me why I would want to visit the Bible Belt of a nation that allows such things to happen - and no police action would be taken (just lawsuits)

If it were to happen almost anywhere else, they'd all be arrested for disturbing the peace and inciting religious hatred.
