Topic: Completely locked OUT, and NEED HELP BAD...!!!!

Okay Everyone here's the deal.

I could not pay last month's hosting fee since I was in the hospital due to medical problems, and the hosting account was deleted. 

As a result, I paid to have the system restored from the backups ($$$$$) including the database's.  After a weeks worth of going crazy and only making myself sicker, I finally managed to get this far and get the site to find the database. Now I can not log in and fix the rest of the site.

I know that there was a tool that was used once before that works, (not the repair settings.php) although I am sure all the paths are wrong as well and the repair setting tool does not save the paths when I change them.


So I need serious help to get the site back up.and running correctly;


Where do I and how do I start to fix this mess?

that may indicate a problem with permissions, what's in your Apache's error log?

If you got the database backup intact, then all you'll need to do is import the backup using phpMyAdmin.

Once you have done that, you'll need to use repair_settings.php to make sure the paths are correct. Then you should be in business.

Should you still require assistance, don't hesitate to ask.

Everytime I use the repair_settings.php, it shows the paths that are being miss directed. I use the tool to save the corrected settings and then if I go back in using the tool the same paths are again incorrect. Why?

It would indicate if the Settings.php is not writeable though... In which case a chmod to 777 would work.
Yet, it could be a mySQL permission issue, eg: the user does not have sufficient permissions. This would not show up in the Apache logs afaik. This is usually fixed by readding the user to the database with ALL priveleges and can mostly be done through the control panel of the provider or else in phpMyAdmin.

On a sidenote, if you paid for a restore of a backup, your hoster should usually restore it *exactly* the way it was... So perhaps talk to them?

I just tried teh tool again and changed the :

/home/content/21/9729941/html/forum/Smileys to:

/home/content/41/9729941/html/forum/Smileys


I save the settings and it switches back to /home/content/21/9729941/html/forum/Smileys

Okay, what is a chmod to 777?

This is a shot in the dark but, ask your host to "re-own" all your files and folders. It seems to me you may have lost ownsership of files and folders and this is why no settings can be changed. if your files and folders were re-owned then you could run repair_settings.php with no problem.

How do I log back in as the Admin now that I can connect to the DB, so that I can make changes fron the ADMIN Panel within SMF?
