Calendar Permissions

(1/2) > >>

ChalkCat:
Is there a way I can enable a membergroup to view the Upcoming Events on the board index whilst at the same time denying them access to the Calendar?  As far as I can tell they seem to be controlled by the same permission...

Arantor:
They are controlled by the same permission, since the upcoming events should also link to the calendar item (and hence you *do* need the same permission)

It's not a *huge* deal to go away and add a new permission, and then to rewrite all the related logic but it isn't a 5 minute job either.

ChalkCat:
Thanks A, it sounds like it may be more hassle than it's worth then for a PHP-newbie like me.  It would have been nice to have though  :)

MrPhil:
Are you looking to allow specified member groups to read the calendar but not update it, or are you looking to also restrict reading to some subset of the calendar data? I would think that the first case should be fairly easy with the current permission system, but the second case could involve quite a bit of coding.

ChalkCat:
Only Admin can edit or post to the calendar, members can only view anyway.  I want guests to be able to see the upcoming events on the board index, so that they get a sniff of how well-maintained our calendar is, but I don't want them to be able to view the actual calendar, or even, ideally, to see the Calendar button at the top.  I want them to have to register if they want to see the calendar beyond the simple list of upcoming events as displayed on the board index.  Does that explain it any better?
