paths for conversion from vanilla 2 to SMF

Been struggling this for awhile and read all the stickies as well as searches for other topics.  Converting vanilla 2 to SMF. 

In the conversion window where it asks for the path to SMF and the path to Vanilla, I keep getting the error message, "Unable to find the settings for Vanilla. Please double check the path and try again."  Both forums are on the same server and in separate folders under public_html (two separate subdomains).   What specific vanilla file does the converter need to point to?  I read in one forum it needs to point to config.php.   I did that and got the same error.

Tried nearly every possible path with no results.  Wondering if converter is broke, browser problems, not applicable for Vanilla 2?  Anyone with any success converting from vanilla 2?

The converter says it's for Vanilla2 to SMF2. What are the path's that you are putting in the converter? Are you putting in the full path? A relative path?

The official converter is for vanilla 1.x, try this http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=407112.0. but has another error that I not found solution ... :(
