Question About Permissions
TeresaMiller:
I'm brand new here and wasn't sure where to post this, so if you need to move it I understand.
This is my very first time ever managing a forum, and I must say I love how easy SMF is!
Right now, I have a question though. I want to do one category where I allow members to create boards. (Kind of a member's bulletin board.) Is there a way to do this? And can it be set where the boards are alphabetical?
Or is there another option that would work better? I'm creating a community for writers and self-publishers and would like to have a section that allows for a more member information than just a member profile. In other words, they can tell more about their skills, books they've written, link to their websites and products, etc.
Thank you!

'allo, Teresa! Welcome to the asylum forum!
I'll move this to a more appropriate board. :)
Then, I'll have a go at typing-up what you need.
K@:
Right. Done that.
Here goes with the "OMG!" stuff. ;)
If you go to Admin>Permissions, you can click on "Modify", beside your membergroups.
In there, you'll see a heading "Carry out administrative duties" and the subsection "Manage boards and categories".
You COULD give your members that permission.
Trouble is, it'll give them the permission to alter ALL/ANY boards, including deleting them.
Not good, I suspect.
I wonder if there's a mod which will help you with what you want...?
Gimme a mo and I'll see what I can find.
Arantor:
Sounds to me like you'd be better off installing one of the blog mods rather than the amount of code change required to do member-specific boards.
K@:
Pity the "Member Specific Permissions" mod never got updated, coz that might just've done the job. :(
Apart from Arantor's point, the only way around it, that I can think of, is to get your members to ask you to create them a board and then let them play with it.
I wonder if Jade uses some kind of system, to do this, on her site?
I'll ask her. :)
