Best anti bot measures?

<< < (2/2)

CircleDock:
I recently installed ZBBlock on my site which already had both Bad Behavior and Stop Forum Spam running and that new addition has dramatically cut the number of bad bots, spammers et al that are able to get through.

ZBBlock runs before Settings.php is processed and is activated by a simple one line instruction right at the top of Settings.php (before even the "<?php" signature. It's nicely configurable and does include a local copy of Stop Forum Spam's bad IP list however you can elect to disable SFS processing if you, like me, already have that mod installed. It does not, however, check the Project Honeypot database so Bad Behavior (which does) catches any bots/spammers listed there. It generates its own 403 error pages - which can optionally include an email link for genuine human visitors who get blocked - and 503s for the more persistent bots.

You do need to monitor its log though because some of its signatures are a bit wide-ranging and you may need to add exceptions to allow genuine visitors to access the site.

It works for me :)
