SMF have turned hard to administer
« on: April 29, 2012, 01:59:35 PM »
Hi guys...

sorry for the so vague topic, but really i don't know how to describe this. Some moderators have asked me to change the forum engine, because this is getting so annoying..

1. Copyright message had disappeared, can't get the reason why
2. e-mails aren't sent to anyody
3. spammers register everyday althought i have some protections
4. can't edit some administratio boards. (save button is useless)
5. message preview button is too slow!!!

For this reasons, the registrations are made manually and I personally send a mail to any new user...  you must agree with me that this is annoying..
I've installed the version 1.1.10 and had updated to 1.1.16 everytime a new release had been launched...

if you think you can give me some support, please let me know.. my website is www.barbearclassico.com [nofollow]

I guess there are more stuff, but that's the most annoying things for the administrative perspective

tnanks in advance
Nuno Leitao

I'm pretty sure this isn't SMF's fault. I assume you have a lot of modifications installed onto your site? Maybe one of them could be causing it.

I agree. There is most likely a mod or combination of mods that is causing most of your issues, and possibly your choice of anti-spam protection is not enough.
Post the list of your installed modifications here first.

I don't see any mods here that should have an effect, but since you are using another theme besides default, one of the manual edits to that theme could be the issue. Have you attempted the administrative edits using the default theme to see if the same issue is there as well?

I see your copyright just fine myself using FireFox, so I am not sure what that issue is other than possibly your browser.
As for emails, what are you using, php or smtp. If SMTP, have you verified the authentication settings? If php, your host may not allow it.
For spammers, stop spammer is good for stopping KNOWN spammers that are already listed, but you need more protection. One of the best is verification questions. There is a 1.1.x version of that mod available. It is already in the 2.0 branch.
