Software does help a lot without it would take more effort to organize/function when developing large projects. Just the little things such as autocomplete/function lookup/syntax coloring and just be able to see all your files at a glance, checking for coding errors. A good IDE just speeds up the process so much and I would suggest getting one. I could not work on the amount of projects that I do without it.
