Well, I've dumped Wordpress. I'm going to try Joomla and see how far I can get. I'll report progress as I go.
I'm also subscribed to this thread, so drop a line if anyone has any tips, tricks, ideas, etc.

I think JFusion also plugs in a shopping cart system ... need to check that though. If not, Im sure Joomla will integrate with one.
A lot of complaints I had with Joomla have been fixed in recent versions so I would recommend it over Wordpress. Backend of Joomla is very systematic and easy to pick up. Easy to add modules and menu items, switch languages etc. Wordpress looks great on the outside but not so straightforward backend trying to build a standard website - its still basically a blog trying to be something else.
It can be tough at first getting the JFusion settings right and making sure login works properly but once you get past that ... easy.

Good news, thanks. During my research I ran across JFusion, but didn't dive too far into it. I'll look at it more, and see how I'll make this work.
