Converting to 2.0 with alot of Mods

(1/1)

bigaldizzler:
Hi, I am currently deciding on which forum software to use for my forum.  I have used smf briefly and am excited about version 2.0 (I no longer run the forum).  I am wondering though, if I have version 1.X and I have installed a few mods on it such as the tiny portal, shop mod, RSS feed, profile mod, etc.  Would any of these mods conflict w/ the conversion?  I am pretty sure some of these mods wouldn't work after conversion but I hope the makers of these mods provide upgrades to fix this issue.

What I am think is I can think of is...for things like tiny portal I can uninstall the mod and reinstall it...but things like shop mods, and stuff of that nature I wonder if all the data would carry through...any suggestion or feedback from those who had converted w/ mods installed let me know how it went, thanks! :)

Dannii:
You'll lose all of the mods when you upgrade, and it's unlikely that they all will provide 2.0 support anytime soon.

Please be aware at this time SMF 2.0 is relatively new. So alot of mods aren't yet compatible.
And due to the extensive changes within 2.0, some may take some time to update.

Is it true everything will be lost?  I was thinking the mods would carry through but may not function correctly, anyone tried this and can confirm?

Also I know 2.0 is new, and mods for 1.0 may not function properly on 2.0 but can the data accumulated in a mod from  1.0 be made to work later on in 2.0? For example, a credit mod for making post from smf 1.0 remains and can be made to work on 2.0 w/o losing data.

karlbenson:
You won't lose any of the data in your database.
However you will lose the code/functionality.
You will need to then install a 2.x compatible version. (if one is available)
