Why isn't Karma enabled here?

Haase:
I used to lump Karma in that bloated unnecessary group, but then one of my users mentioned wanting to be able to do something like that.

So I relabeled them "cool points" on the site, and everyone seems to like it.  So I think the moral of that story is that you need to use your imagination a bit.  Maybe "Karma" does suck for you, but maybe you have an advice forum and just changing the text to "credibility" or "usefullness" will make a world of difference to your users.

*reminisces*

I remember when I turned karma on... after two weeks we had about three people so alienated, the community has never seen them again.

Since them, I've left it off.

See...  there's another very good use for the Karma Mod...  the userbase gets a chance to self-regulate.   :o

I turned karma on about a month ago and put up a poll at the same time asking people if they wanted to keep the feature.

About 80% said they liked it.

The first thing I noticed was that people were actually concerned about getting karma --which was sort of a surprise to me. The next thing I noticed was that some people who had a habit of being a bit rude suddenly were nicer.

So, I used to think it was a waste of space, now I have a different opinion.

I'd like to change the karma/applaud/smite terms but have never been able to figure out anything significantly better.
