Hi,

I have just offered to help a friend upgrade her forum for parents of babies with eczema. It was installed by some one who has moved away.

I have gone to the admin page where I see a message in red saying;

You're using an outdated version of SMF, which contains some bugs which have since been fixed. It is recommended that you update your forum to the latest version as soon as possible. It only takes a minute!

It seems we are on 1.1.15 but we should upgrade to 1.1.16

The words 'update your forum' are a link that take you to the package manager page.
..now I know it says this should only take a minute... but thats as far as I can get.

There is a box saying FTP info requires. All the info is filled out except the password.. I input the password and press proceed but all that happens is the password disappears..The adress in the titlebar changes to this;

xxxx://xxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk/xxxxxxxxxxxx/index.php?PHPSESSID=b574983cb6dbd88a275377db1724ce99&action=packages;sa=install;package=smf_patch_1.0.22_1.1.16_20.tar.gz

but nothing happens...
whats the first step I need to do to upgrade this forum.

If I click Browse Packages.. there is a latest packages header.. then the message;

A couple of security vulnerabilities have been identified in SMF 1.1.15. You can install this patch (click here to install) to update your version of SMF to 1.1.16.

"Clicking here to install" just takes me to the forum start page but with this in the address bar;

So these quick install buttons dont seem to be working.



Under this there is the modifications packages list;

Those without a green light button have the 'apply mod' option. Clicking that takes me back to the 'FTP information required' box... and I start going round in circles again.

Any help appreciated.. and apologies in advance for being a numpty.

Ah... Probably not you, mate.

Then, try this...

Get this:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/downloads/smf_patch_1.0.22_1.1.16.tar.gz

and try installing it, as you would with a normal mod.

If that freaks, try uploading it using FTP. Then got to Packages to apply it.

Ok I will read up on how to backup the forum.

I have never even 'installed a normal mod' so I will read up on that as well and get back if I have issues.. thanks.
