Dear all,

Is there already any converter from a 1.0 SMF based forum to a 2.0 SMF based forum available?
I know keeping everything is quite impossible, but is there any script to import groups, boards, and/or messages from 1.0 on a brand new 2.0 RC1?

TE:
you don't need a converter, you can upgrade your SMF 1.0 to SMF 2.
Upgrade SMF
Use the large upgrade from our downloads page.

Suppose I have a 1.1.x board hosted using MySQL, that I want to transfer to my own Linux (Ubuntu in fact) server using PostgreSQL? (I do).

What might be the best way of going about it?

TE:
never tested this myself but you need to migrate your database from MySQL to PostgreSQL first:
http://jmz.iki.fi/blog/programming/converting_mysql_database_to_postgresql
after the database migration run the upgrade.

Thanks for that.  My preference for postgreSQL is a historical one, given that it was always a "better" database than MySQL.  I've not really been a follower of MySQL development (nor any other database really) but there seems to be a level of opinion that MySQL is a lot more resilient, and well structured, than it was.

I'm wondering if I might be better to worry less, and just install a MySQL server, or would the general advice to be to use postgreSQL if that option is available?

I'm just curious about the general view on here.
